Investment conducted by the Lublin Communel under the title “The construction of new route of the no 809 regional road in Lublin, from the intersection of Bohaterów Monte Cassino st. with Wojciechowska st. to the Sławin junction – transferring the traffic towards the Lublin Sławinek junction (S12/S17/S19)” is a part of undertaking aimed at decreasing the traffic in the city centre. “We are shaping the peripheral road network in Lublin, and that means the existence system of inner rings and this investment is the best example of such an approach. We intend to protect the city centre from excessive vehicle traffic and eliminate inter-district transfers in this region” – said Krzysztof Żuk, Lublin president, during the signing of the contract.   As part of the project, 1,2 km of two lane road has been constructed, running over the Sucha Valley on two parallel overpasses. Intersections with Wojciechowska st. and Nałęczowska st. have been rebuilt, and service roads, exits, driveways, pedestrian-cycling routes and bus bays created. The new or reconstructed technical infrastructure encompassed: telecommunication, water, power, gas and heat supply network as well as sanitary sewage system. New greenery has been planted and traffic and street lights erected.   Extension of Bohaterów Monte Cassino st. has enabled the transfer of transit traffic outside the south districts of Lublin, relieving the inhabitants from the negative consequences of excessive traffic, like noise or air pollution. The capacity of avenues Kraśnicka, Sikorskiego and Solidarności has improved. This section of the road has created new transport route in the city and region, distributing the traffic in all directions, towards: Chełm, Zamość, Hrebenne (no 82,12,17 national roads), Warsaw, Radom (no 19, S12,17 national roads), Rzeszów, border crossing in Barwinek and Białystok (no 19 national road). The investment has also improved the city transport network efficiency, and in the future can influence the dynamics of regional economic growth.
