perspective
2014 - 2020

The majority of waste may be processed and recovered, providing precious raw materials. For instance, from a million of mobile phones one may recover 34 kilograms of gold and from two tonnes of used car catalysts – between 1 and 3 kilograms of platinum! Paper, glass, plastic, cans, electronic waste, potato peelings or old clothes which went out of fashion should not be thrown into landfills, but rather to special designated plants. Production of items from the processed waste is much cheaper and, more importantly, it contributes to protection of our planet. Correct segregation is however the necessary conditions and it ought to start at each house. It is worth it to invest in construction or modernization of plants that are involved with utilizing and processing of waste on a daily basis. And that’s what happened in Lubań, where Communal Service Management Poland developed for almost PLN 29 million – whilst PLN 16.7 million constituted a EU grant – an installation for processing communal waste.  In particular, this consisted of expanding the collection point of mixed communal waste along with the necessary technical installations and gates with air curtains, expanding the sorting area with mechanical-manual sorting of secondary raw materials and a composting area for the processing of biowaste, from which soil improver called “kompozgiuczek” will be produced. Furthermore, such specialist machines as sweeper and loader-gripper were purchased. Part of the funds was designated for the accompanying infrastructure, necessary in case of such investments, including, among others, new installations (i.e. Electrical and water-wastewater), delineation of roads, construction of social-sanitary facilities and fencing as well as creating a protective green belt. In Lubań, waste from 14 Lower Silesian municipalities are processed.
