Redesign of the track-road system within Wały gen. Sikorskiego and al. św. Jana Pawła II streets together with the construction of the tram and bus lane in Toruń - BiT- City II
Rapacki Square and its surroundings is one of the most important places on the communication map of Toruń. This is a point where various public transport systems integrate. This area will gain a new face in the scope of the project “Redesign of the track-road system within Wały gen. Sikorskiego and al. św. Jana Pawła II streets together with the construction of the tram and bus lane in Toruń – BiT- City”.
The investment includes redesign of existing tram tracks along Chopina, al. św. Jana Pawła II, Wały gen. Sikorskiego, Kraszewskiego and Czerwona Droga streets, as well as the construction of a new section of the track connecting Artylerii Polskiej Square and Niepodległości Square along with accompanying infrastructure. A modern transfer station will be built at al. św. Jana Pawła II Street to integrate bus and tram transport. A comprehensive redesign of the road system within the tracks area will also be carried out. Greenery in the investment area will be developed further: planting of weather and traffic resistant trees and bushes, a green stop, green tracks and renovated lawns are planned.
The newly created section of tracks will allow the introduction of additional tram connections. As a result, trams will be able to take over some of the passengers who until now used individual means of transport and buses.
Thanks to the project, we will obtain a public space of higher quality and higher level of safety for passengers. The urban space in the direct vicinity of the Old Town complex inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List will be tidied up.
