perspective
2014 - 2020

“ESPRIT2GO is going to bring a highly innovative development for electrical powered shared mobility into service in relevant urban use cases. On the basis of previous studies in redistributable carsharing systems in urban areas, currently the EU is funding the development in the project ESPRIT – Easily diStributed Personal RapId Transit (2015-2018) within the Green Vehicles Initiative of HORIZON2020. Within the research project, ESPRIT partners will demonstrate functionality of prototypes (TRL6). Within ESPRIT2GO piloting in operational environment and validation under active involvement of users is necessary to qualify the system not only from technical, but also from operational perspective to a ready-to-market solution. Personal Rapid Transit has been intensively researched in the last decade of years and concepts and vehicles were designed and piloted for very specific niche applications. The ESPRIT solution has the potential for a wider usage, but still it need to address specific situations in the rapidly growing field of shared mobility. ESPRIT2GO is going to pilot a new innovative and sustainable transport service in the city of Świnoujście. PRT will be provided on both sides of the Świna river mouth and will replace individual mainly local car traffic which is taking the “Bielik” ferry in the city center nowadays. Passengers may use PRT or any other mode of transport to get to the ferry point and will be able to continue the trip on the other riverbank by use of another electric PRT-vehicle. As the vehicles are towable to a “road train” they can be easily distributed or collected by the fleet operator in quick response to transport demand. Users can reduce travel times significantly as there is no need to wait for boarding to the ferry. Within the seed money project, more use cases in the South Baltic area will be identified and additional partners will be involved to prepare the implementation of the innovative PRT service within their specific condition
