Implementing a carbon efficiency strategy by limiting motorized vehicle traffic in the city centre of Ścinawa
A modern car park in a shape of a ship with 122 spaces, bicycle rental station, public transport stop, as well as public toilets and a shower – this is what Park&Ride in Ścinawa looks like. A T-34 tank is located on the bow of the parking-ship, which had been standing for many years on a pedestal on the market square in Ścinawa. Today, the restored tank has a „time capsule” hidden inside, i.e. a sealed metal container with a map of the Lubin poviat, newspapers and photos, which was placed during the opening ceremony by local government officials. The parking is located at the entrance to the city, in the immediate vicinity of the port of Ścinawa and exit roads. Drivers who decide to leave their car here will be able to change to a bicycle or a bus towards the city centre and railway or bus stations, from where they can go using public transport to Lubin, Polkowice and Brzeg Dolny. Park&Ride (P&R) car parks – are parking spaces for cars, located on the outskirts of cities, intended for people using public transport. The system is to encourage drivers to limit travel by their own car to the necessary minimum and change to buses or trams.
