Conversion of an old boarding school in the town of Góra with the aim of offering sheltered housing
A dependant person, in a difficult life situation due to age, disability or disease though not requiring care in a 24/7 nursery home can stay in a sheltered housing. Under the supervision and care of various specialists such a person has a chance to become independent again, gain new skills and socialise with a local community. Flats like that are created by local authorities and public-benefit organisations who hire staff specialising in helping people under their care to cope with everyday life.
Thanks to the EU subsidy, Góra municipality could create two sheltered housings which altogether may accommodate 12 people, whilst 2 places are designated to people leaving foster care, e.g., family children’s homes.
The building was thoroughly rebuilt under the supervision of historic buildings conservator. At present it has a renovated elevation, lift and a bit of planned plot of land nearby. It was also possible to create a car park and a relaxing area. Sheltered housing constitutes only a part of the building, whilst the remaining part was developed into a day-care centre for elderly people (a project also subsidized by EU) offering group therapy rooms, a nurse office, a cloakroom and bathrooms, as well as municipal flats. The whole facility is also accessible for the disabled.
Góra municipality is the leader of the project and the partnering parties are Góra county as well as the Local Action Group.
