Manufacturing process improvements and product range diversification as a result of implementing R&D results at OBST SA
OBST S.A. is a manufacturer of corn flakes, formed cereal products, muesli and crisp breads. From its inception, the company has been committed to delivering top-quality products based on natural, high-grade materials at competitive prices. EU funding allowed the company to implement its R&D results to improve its existing products and add four new ones.
The company’s selection was expanded to include:
- multigrain honey-coated long rings with cocoa,
- Micro-Flakes Fit,
- two-layer filled wholemeal cereals and crisp bread with caraway.
Through the project, the company could improve its manufacturing process by implementing innovative technologies, resulting in significant product improvements. Product shelf life was extended from 12 to 16 months, the content of harmful acrylamides was reduced to a minimum and significant improvements were made in the safety and durability of the products through innovative packaging.
The innovative technologies deployed by the company include:
- extrusion (i.e. a state-of-the-art technology designed to process flour or semolina with additives under high temperature and pressure),
- breakfast cereals,
- formed cereal products (cereal balls, rings, shells) and crisp bread,
- an innovative process of drying and toasting products,
- and primary- and secondary-packaging processes.
