Creating an educational and cultural centre for the presentation and promotion of folklore through the restoration of Karolin Palace in Otrębusy
Mazowsze – The Tadeusz Sygietyński National Folk Song and Dance Ensemble is one of the largest artistic companies drawing inspiration from Polish folklore and national culture. The historic home of the ensemble is in Karolin Palace in Otrębusy, a building designed at the start of the twentieth century by Professor Czesław Domaniewski.
In 2017, in order to realise Karolin’s potential as a place of natural and cultural significance as well as to extend the educational activities of Mazowsze Ensemble, work began on the project entitled: Creating an educational and cultural centre for the presentation and promotion of folklore through the restoration of Karolin Palace in Otrębusy. The first stage included the renovation of the palace elevation, the reconstruction and revitalisation of the interior, the modernisation of installations and building security systems, and the adaptation of the building to make it accessible for users with limited mobility.
Renovation and modernisation work preparing the building to house the Karolin Centre for Polish Folklore was completed in 2020. The second stage of the project was the creation and installation of a modern exhibition with features such as a high-end audio-visual system. The Centre for Polish Folklore was officially opened to the public in September 2021. Its permanent exhibition constitutes a colourful and musical journey through Polish culture, showcasing the richness and diversity of Polish folklore and documenting the history and activities of Mazowsze Ensemble.
As part of its new cultural and educational programme, which strives to be accessible to all visitors, the Centre organises singing, dance and craft workshops as well as lectures, discussions and concerts, which can be tailored to suit the needs and requirements of diverse groups and individuals. Visitors can explore the permanent exhibition at their own pace or with one of the Centre’s guides. More information about the Centre’s exhibitions and events can be found at: karolinmazowsze.pl
