Implementation of innovative production technology – Irregularly Cut Noodles (ICN )
The main activity of WMD POL-MAK is the production of all types of noodles, predominantly traditional pasta. The aim of the project was to implement a completely new technological process using the Irregularly Cut Noodles (ICN) production technology, and thus significantly improve the company’s offer in the market segment of traditional pasta – a segment that is of key importance to the enterprise. The technology developed by POL-MAK as part of its R&D work is characterised by better technological parameters than currently available solutions for the production of irregularly cut noodles. ICN pasta technology enables the industrial production of pasta that, due to an uneven shape of noodles and significant differences in their width, tastes and looks like pasta prepared at home on a pastry board, with a rolling pin and a knife. The project is a response to an increased interest in food produced according to traditional recipes which have been observed in many countries, especially those highly developed, over the past few decades. A new pasta production line was bought, along with original equipment to form noodles and arrange them in even rows. The state-of-the-art line has significantly increased production efficiency while reducing staff costs, production waste and energy consumption.
Comment:
The implementation of the project has made it possible to introduce:
- process innovation, including the pasta maker covered by patent application P.429429,
- marketing innovation – irregularly cut noodles of varying shapes and sizes,
- eco-innovation – a production process characterised by energy efficiency and reduced production waste.
As a result, there has been significant growth in the company and its competitive position strengthened.
