Polish – Czech centre of knighthood training – Construction of a medieval wooden fortified settlement
The idea of constructing a wooden fortified settlement modelled on the example of medieval buildings aroused during the first Medieval Fair in Buczyna in 2003. This idea consisting in a construction of a medieval wooden fortified settlement was to attract tourists. The Polish side invited to cooperate within the framework of these activities the city of Zlate Hory and representatives of the Czech brotherhoods of knights: Sermirsky, Spolek, Jesenik.
The investment plans the construction of a wooden knight’s fortified settlement modelled on the example of the medieval Ostrówek, which will be the seat of the brotherhoods of knights from Poland and the Czech Republic, and above all, an attraction increasing the tourism potential of the gmina.
The scope of the project covers, inter alia, construction of 649.5 m2 of cubature buildings, including: tavern, inn, stables, armoury, forge, guest rooms as well as rest and refreshment facilities.
The total area of the construction will amount to 1,970 m2. The two artillery towers will constitute characteristic elements of the palisade. The seats and stands can accommodate about 650 spectators at one time.
The operation of the Polish-Czech Knighthood Training Centre will relay on ongoing cooperation of local communities from Poland and the Czech Republic. The project implementation will influence the interest that the gmina attracts and it will improve its competitiveness, as well as enable the creation of a very attractive tourism and cultural offer.
The project constitutes a specific extension of the, so far, undertaken activities as well as it is an attempt to emphasize the historic values of the gmina, i.e. numerous monuments and archaeological sites.
The fortified settlement will also provide place for different exhibits, gallery exhibitions organised by cultural institutions, such as museums. It will also provide place to present outdoor theatre plays. The facility will cover an original building of large cultural significance for the entire region.
