FIRE SAFETY AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS FOR POLISH AND UKRAINIAN CROSS-BORDER COMMUNITIES
Polish and Ukrainian neighbouring regions have much in common in terms of socio-economic standing and natural resources. However, despite these shared interests, there has been a lack of concrete efforts to coordinate approaches between the regions. Despite the borders that sometimes divide territories, the impact of fire is consistent across Europe, thus also across PL-UA border area. Because fire and disasters do not stop at borders and neither does their impact. Cross-border local authorities as the Applicant Stawiski Municipality and state fire rescue units as Partner 1 Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Ternopil Oblast have a crucial role to play in strengthening the resilience of their populations and critical infrastructure networks and remain the ultimate warranty when capacities of resilience are disrupted at any level. The Project builds awareness and appreciation of the importance of emergency infrastructure and reaffirms the cross-border commitment to keep the critical infrastructure and borderland’s communities safe and secure. Securing the cross-border infrastructure connects people and supports the critical infrastructure systems of borderland, is a trans-national priority that requires planning and coordination across the whole borderland community The main target groups of the Project are supported local authorities and institutions of cross-border emergency system, equipped fire rescue brigades and participants of the training events: fire rescuers and emergency sector stakeholders. Final beneficiaries: population of the borderland benefiting from developed public safety, as well as borderland residents, tourists and travelling people. Overall objective: Improvement of the institutional capacity to prevent and coordinate the management system for emergency situations. Specific objectives: 1.
