Olecko-Oziersk: 15 seconds of history through the eyes of young people. Castles, barracks and legends
In north-eastern Poland and in the Kaliningrad District the policy of sustainable development is largely connected with the development of tourism. However, still it can be done much about it. Olecko authorities in the Development Strategy of the City and Municipality until 2025 recognized that it requires more attention, because there are less tourists than in other similar municipalities. The same situation is in the Oziersk region. To meet these problems, Olecko District and Technical School in Oziersk prepared the project “15 seconds of history through the eyes of young people. Castles, barracks and legends”. The selection of partners was not accidental. The Olecko District has one of the most beautiful historic buildings in Olecko, which tourist values are not fully used due to the technical condition. A similar situation takes place in Oziersk. The buildings of former barracks, in which there is a technical school, are hardly ever visited. The planned renovation of the castle and development of the area of the former barracks will make these places more willingly visited by tourists. A very serious argument for establishing cross-border cooperation was that the Active People Association „Castle”, cooperating with the district, which organizes interesting exhibitions, lectures and runs the museum, has worked effectively for 10 years in the castle. The technical school in Oziersk will benefit from these experiences since it plans to create a similar institution. The partners will jointly prepare an exhibition of interesting tourist objects, and will encourage to explore the areas on the other side of the border. Also, jointly prepared promotional materials and publications will serve this purpose. Without such cooperation, achieving the goal would be impossible. Tourist offer would be poorer and people visiting Olecko would not know that in Oziersk there is also an interesting place to see, and tourists from the Oziersk region still mostly avoid O
