The Roztocze Biosphere Reserve
Roztocze is a unique geographical and natural EU region, requiring joint cross-border actions to improve its recognition as a region brand. In 2011, on the UA side, Roztocze entered the UNESCO list. In 2015, through common efforts of PL and UA an application form of the Roztocze Cross-border Biosphere Reserve was prepared, and in 2018 the form of the biosphere reserve on the Polish side was submitted to UNESCO. There is hope that in spring 2019, Roztocze will be inscribed on the UNESCO WHL. The cities of Tomaszów and Zhovkva and the Local Tourist Organisation „Roztocze” are the signatories to a letter of intent for the creation of the Roztocze Cross-border Biosphere Reserve (RBR). Now it is time for actions. On the one hand the „Roztocze Biosphere Reserve” project aims at teachers and school headmasters and on the other hand at administration and non-governmental organisations dealing with nature in Tomaszów and Zhovkva. It seeks to show good and bad practices in school and out-of-school environmental education and nature protection system management on both sides of the border. It is to popularise the idea of a biosphere reserve as a model sustainable valuable natural and cultural area management. Conferences and study trips will take place on both sides of the border. An info. and promotion campaign will be conducted using the Internet and local radio. 200 participants of two conferences and 100 of two study trips will directly benefit from the project through whom we’ll reach mainly the students of Tomaszów and Zhovkva schools and the Roztocze community (about 200 000 inhabitants, about 700 000 tourists) via the inf. on the Internet, advert. spots, brochures and inf. materials. It depends notably on teachers that the info. reaches schools in Roztocze in PL and UA. The cross-border cooperation is a prerequisite for the sustainable development of Roztocze and the implementation of ideas related to the operation of the RBR. Jointly-despite the borders
