Nature's treasury beyond borders
The project will be implemented in The Bialowieza Forest and Polesie: 2 weakly industrialized areas, which retained natural flora there. Along the flora, different traditions of the use of herbs remained unchanged among residents, which became rare in the west Poland, in Belorussia, such as herbal treatment, plant inspirations in folk embroidery, weaving, songs and believes. However, constant development in commerce sourcing of farming plants from natural habitats endangers highly plants biodiversity, species durability and the existence of natural ecosystems. It brings the necessity to attract local communities attention to the problem extinction of rare plants, endangered species, to make people aware of alternative methods of sourcing valuable plants without destroying environment. The aim of the project is the rise awareness of the need to protect precious as well as endangered plant sources not through obligations and restrictions but by : 1) pointing out still strong in the areas bond between herb traditions and residents as culture provoking factor 2) showing an alternative way – growing herbs as farm plants. Owing to this, the areas will remain tourists attractions and traditionally used herbs, farmed nowadays, can become local products. It will increase life standard of people and strengthen their bonds with nature. The project will prepare local teachers and students to elaborate original programs to attract residents’ of PL and BY attention to the problem and will show effective solutions. The educators will be supported Education Centers, which are planed to be established. Mobile exhibitions will be created as well in order to involve wide public. The products of the project will be: ready to use training summaries with worksheets for students, brochures and leaflets for adult recipients. The Cross-boarder cooperation of the regions will enrich the exchange of good practice between areas valuable in terms of their nature and their Educational Center
