Joint response of public healthcare institutions to climate related diseases and health hazards
Progressive climate change is established scientific fact. Change of peoples‘ environment is undeniable and in most cases has adverse effect on their health. Progress of climate changes requires determined activities in every field – healthcare also has a mission to respond to unavoidable health hazards resulting from climate changes by wide adaptation measures being preventive activities from patient point of view. Suwałki and Chenyakhovsk Hospitals develop the cooperation in form of joint action in the scope of implementation of most appropriate tools and methods for PL-RU borderland population’s adaptation to adverse impact of climate changes (diseases and health hazards) – the overall project objective. Expected changes: improving quality of medical infrastructure used in diagnostics and treatment of diseases resulting from climate changes, increasing of expertise knowledge level of medical staff in the field of adaptation of healthcare institutions to climate changes, deepen knowledge in specific thematic areas and increasing awareness of inhabitants of PL-RU borderland in the scope health hazards resulting from climate changes and prevention/adaptation role in morbidity evasion. Main project outputs: 1 joint action aimed at environmental protection or preventing climate change, including 7 trainings, meetings and exchanges of knowledge addressing common environment protection, climate change challenges (175 participants) Target group: staff of partner hospitals operating in PL-RU borderland. Final beneficiaries: residents of PL-RU borderland, who will feel the improved quality of healthcare (293 195 inhab. – Suwałki city, Suwałki, Augustów, Sejny poviats, Chernyakhovsk, Pravdinsk, Ozersk, Krasnoznamensk and Nesterov districts). CB approach will allow for the optimal use of potential, know-how and good practices and to fill the gaps of both partners to achieve an optimal level and the highest access to high quality health care in the area of PL-RU borderland.
