Protection of natural heritage in a cross-border area through the improvement and development of water-sewage infrastructure in Sovetsk (Kaliningrad District) and Nowe Miasto Lubawskie Municipality
The project aims to establish cooperation for a clean environment in the cross-border area through the construction / reconstruction of sewage infrastructure. The project is to solve the Partner’s common problems regarding poor quality of sewage infrastructure in border regions. As part of the implementation of the project, a sewage network will be built on both sides of the border, additionally the PL Partner plans to build a sewage treatment plant, which will significantly improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the cross-border regions covered by the project and the quality of the environment and will prevent its further degradation. The project also envisages educational activities aimed at increasing the ecological awareness of residents and presenting the principles of sustainable development and pro-ecological attitudes in everyday life. Cross-border approach added effect – joint implementation of the project will contribute to strengthening cross-border cooperation between the Polish and Russian cross-border regions in the protection of natural heritage and natural resources management, will allow to break neighbor stereotypes accumulated among local communities, and may also form the basis for further cooperation also in other areas (culture, economy). Partner’s cooperation will also enable to learn and jointly develop „good practices” in the field of natural resources management thanks to meetings of the project team and planned conferences. The most important effects of the project: – The length of the new/ reconstructed sewage system: 8756,5 m (5794,5 m PL/2962 m RU). – Number of newly created wastewater treatment plants: 1 (PL). Target group: directly – residents of the village of Jamielnik (PL) and residents of the city of Sovetsk, who will be connected to the newly-started/modernized sewage system. Final beneficiaries: all inhabitants of the areas covered by the project who will feel the improvement of the quality of the environment.
