perspective
2014 - 2020

Periodic inspections of the technical condition of the facility (including the large lock and small lock on the Januszkowice barrage) have shown that: the facilities are in average technical and aesthetic condition, gradual progress of infrastructure degradation has been demonstrated, and in some cases the condition of the elements of the barrage poses a threat to life and property. The scope of the investment includes the reconstruction of the existing chamber with the existing parameters and the reconstruction of the existing small chamber through its partial demolition and the construction of a chamber in its place with parameters 190 m usable length and 12 m usable width, along with infrastructure and accompanying facilities, including the upper entrance and lower, relocation and construction of a new control room, a yard for storing renovation closures, a berth for large vessels awaiting locks, a technological footbridge, a social and storage building, a septic tank, access road, technical infrastructure networks.

The scope of the project planned for implementation will ensure the continuity of inland navigation on the Odra Waterway in the event of a possible failure of any of the locks on the Januszkowice barrage. The key assumption of the project is to increase transport accessibility and improve the conditions for the provision of services related to the transport of goods and passengers by maintaining the parameters of the hydrotechnical infrastructure in minimum Class III waterway, which is in line with the objectives of the Priority Axis III of OPI&E.The implementation of the project’s objectives will positively affect the achievement of significant socio-economic benefits:- increase in transport to Oder Waterway- reducing the degradative impact of road transport on the environment thanks to the transfer of loads to river barges- increasing the position of seaports (as a long-term impact)- activation and economic growth of areas (poviats) located within Oder Waterway – new jobs are created (indirectly), e.g. in shipping, transport and production companies- the possibility of using the Oder Waterway for tourism, which is an important factor in regional development, as it stimulates the development of the hotel industry, gastronomy, and other forms of tourism related to water tourism- increase in the investment attractiveness of communes and poviats lying within the Oder Waterway belt- development of water tourism and regional development- increasing flood protection and minimizing the effects of the so-called ten-year water- improvement of water quality as a result of their aeration, strengthening the position of agriculture- impact on the position of seaports.

The development of inland navigation is one of the important connecting points for seaports, as well as their onshore supply base. The efficiency of connections of ports with the hinterland is currently perceived as the basic factor determining competitiveness and, consequently, opportunities for further development of the port. Back-office transport efficiency is an important factor affecting transport costs and safety.- an increase in agricultural yields thanks to the regulation of water ratios.

The planned investment will improve the conditions of using the waters and carrying out flood waters, and together with the construction of the seashore, it will improve the flood safety of the area in the context of agricultural development. The project will contribute to a partial leveling of losses in agriculture caused, inter alia, by summer and winter-spring floods.
