Modernization of the lock and the control room on the Krapkowice barrage along with the reconstruction of avanports
A reviwew of technical condition of the lock and the control room that they are in a very poor condition. It is necessary to carry out a general modernization of the draft chamber and the construction of a new chamber. On the other hand, the existing historic small lock on the Krapkowice barrage has failed and has been out of service for several dozen years.
Construction works include the construction of a new chamber with operational parameters 190 m long and 12 m wide with technical, mechanical and hydraulic equipment (support gates, circulation channel closures, renovation closures) and the reconstruction of the existing train chamber, which will ensure a standard two-chamber layout and guarantee continuity of navigation . The task also includes the construction of a bridge over the lower head of the new lock, reconstruction of the bridge over the lower head of the lock, construction of the Sonia River siphon under the upper avant-corps of the locks, construction of the lock control room and reconstruction of avant-ports with parking spaces, construction of a road culvert and reconstruction of roads.
The scope of the project planned for implementation will ensure the continuity of inland navigation on the Odra Waterway in the event of a possible failure of any of the chambers on the Krapkowice barrage. The key assumption of the project is to increase transport accessibility and improve the conditions for the provision of services related to the transport of goods and passengers thanks to the adaptation of the hydrotechnical infrastructure on water steps to minimum of Class III waterway, which is in line with the objectives of the Priority Axis III of OPI&E.
The implementation of the project’s objectives will positively affect the achievement of significant socio-economic benefits:- increase in transport to Oder Waterway- reducing the degradative impact of road transport on the environment thanks to the transfer of loads to river barges 19- activation and economic growth of the areas located along the Oder Waterway – new jobs are created indirectly, e.g. in shipping companies,- the possibility of using the Oder Waterway for tourism, which will be a factor in regional development, e.g. through the development of the hotel industry, gastronomy, and other forms of tourism related to water tourism.
The project implementation will contribute to the social and economic development through:-increase in investment attractiveness of communes and poviats lying within the OHH belt- development of water tourism and regional development- creating jobs in the sector of shipowners, transport and production companies- impact on the position of seaports. The development of inland navigation is one of the important links for seaports, as well as their onshore supply base. The efficiency of connections of ports with the hinterland is currently perceived as the basic factor determining competitiveness and, consequently, opportunities for further development of the port. Back-office transport efficiency is an important factor affecting transport costs and safety.-increase in agricultural yields thanks to the regulation of water relations. The implementation of the project will increase the level of flood safety – including both by reducing the risk of a serious accident within the barrage, as well as by ensuring currently non-existent possibilities of flattening flood waves on the Krapkowice barrage.
