A clean environment in modern times, on the one hand, determines the quality of human life but, on the other hand, its wellbeing is directly dependent on human activity. This project responds to both of these challenges – on the one hand, as a result of the planned investments, the living conditions of the inhabitants will improve and, on the other hand, it will reduce the emission of municipal pollution to the environment. Achievement of the objectives set for the project, i. e.”Increase of the economic cooperation between cross-border regions of northern Poland and Kaliningrad Oblast of RF” and “Natural environment quality improvement in the cross-border area” should allow to improve the standard of living of the inhabitants of the cross-border area covered by the project and at the same time reduce the amount of pollution which directly and indirectly reaches the Vistula Lagoon. The main effects of the project is increase in the number of people who can use the sewage system and drink good water supplied directly to their homes through the water supply system. The beneficiaries will also include entrepreneurs who will gain areas better prepared for conducting business activity. Taking into account the natural attractiveness of border areas, this may result in an acceleration of the development of tourism. In terms of nature, the construction of the sewage system will eliminate small cesspools, which should contribute to the purity of groundwater. The joint cross-border implementation of symmetrical projects certainly has added value in terms of environmental protection. Both local governments will use each other’s experience – Zalewo commune has knowledge of implementation of investments in rural areas, Bagration Administration – in the scope of cross-border cooperation projects. Zalewo commune also has technological solutions for water supply and sewage treatment, which can be applied in areas of low density.
