Digital Research Infrastructure for the Humanities and Arts DARIAH-PL
The project ‘Digital Research Infrastructure for the Humanities and Arts DARIAH-PL’ was carried out to build research infrastructure for digital humanities, named Dariah.lab. The infrastructure is a part of the European DARIAH network (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities). Dariah.lab encompasses hardware tools and software services using state-of-the-art technology and integrated digital resources from various of humanities and arts. The network of distributed research laboratories that make up Dariah.lab is designed on the basis of a research agenda developed by the 16 consortium members, and includes:
- The Source Laboratory equipped to acquire high-quality digital representations of physical objects, landscapes, archaeological data and material heritage objects (including GPR, 3D scanners, spectrometers, magnetometers, cameras, photographic equipment, document scanners and sound recording equipment). In addition, the laboratory can store and deliver data via a cloud infrastructure. The lab tools and services can also be used to pre-process and analyse the acquired data.
- The Automated Enrichment Laboratory offers services for processing source materials to acquire data for automated analysis and metadata additions in the process of automatic or manual annotation of those materials (e.g. annotation of emotive expressions, linguistic tagging, text dating, semantic annotation of concepts in 2D images or acquisition of sound descriptors).
- The Supervised Semantic Discovery Laboratory consolidates data acquired in the Source Laboratory and metadata acquired in the Automated Enrichment Laboratory using methods of normalisation, standardisation and semantic unification. It also allows the automatic binding of available data and the discovery of new relationships.
- The Intelligent Analysis and Interpretation Laboratory further processes semantically linked information for multi-criteria data analysis, detailed interpretation and ongoing interaction with data. It also offers a core set of data processing, analysis and modelling algorithms designed for the humanities and arts sciences.
- The Advanced Visualisation Laboratory offers large-format high-resolution HDR visualisation services, modular 2D and 3D display systems and spatio-temporal services. The laboratory is equipped with infrastructure for the physical visualisation of data acquired through the activities of other laboratories (including 3D printing).
The use of Dariah.lab is possible for national and international research and development projects, as well as for commercial partners. The full list of services is available at https://lab.dariah.pl/catalogue/.
