The project area stretches along the Augustów Canal – a unique hydraulic engineering work, on a European scale, from the first half of the 19th century. The project is a response to the problems and limitations that hinder the appropriate and efficient use of outstanding potential for tourism development around Augustow Canal, such as: undefined tourism product of Augustow Canal, short average stay of the tourists, low competitiveness and the basic (simple) nature of local tourist services, lack of a common brand, low Canal’s awareness, insufficient harmonization of policies and activities of borderland local authorities and stakeholders. There is no common promotion policy and cooperation between borderland partners within the range of creating common and coherent vision of the cross-border tourism development along the cross-border waterway. Overall objective: Strengthening competitiveness and potential of the Augustów Canal area as the unique cross-border heritage tourism product and destination. Project outputs: 1 promoted joint heritage tourism product – the Augustow Canal, 2 cross-border events with participation of 26 people (1 workshop, 1 training). That accompanied with defined and promoted heritage tourism product as the Canal itself, 1 social media promotion campaign, 1 integrated promotion plan, 1 joint on-line tourist information platform and 3 installed welcome signs on site makes project fully correspond to Programme Priority 1.1. because all undertaken means are contributing to promotion of local culture and history. Estimated result indicator of increase of number of visitors of the historical heritage and cultural sites will be achieved by coherent and effective implementation of the project activities. Achievement of most of the Project outputs (strategy, events, promotion and information means) requires close cooperation between the Partners and is not possible without it. Same as sustainability and maintenance of results.
