Modernization of the historic building of the Konopacki Palace and its surroundings in order to activate the social and economic district of Warsaw's Praga district
The investment was carried out in the Praga-Północ district in Warsaw and consisted in the modernization and revitalization of a historic building at ul. Strzelecka 11/13 – Konopacki Palace.
Ksawery Konopacki’s house, also called “Konopackiego Palace”, is a building with a basement and three floors above ground, with a cubage of 5461 m³, located at the intersection of Strzelecka and Środkowa Streets. It was erected in the years 1861-1866, according to the design of an unknown architect, for the owner and founder of the district, Ksawery Konopacki. The block is the main part parallel to ul. Central and two side wings.
In 1881, the house became the property of a retired Russian – Prince General Agafon Wachwakhov, who at that time owned a large part of the area in the quarter of Środkowa, Strzelecka, Kowelska and Kowieńska streets. In the following years, the palace passed into the hands of a partnership of Jewish entrepreneurs, Endelman and Papierny. In 1924, the entire property between Środkowa and Kowelska Streets was purchased by the city, which allocated the area and the building for educational purposes. And so, in the following years, the Palace hosted a kindergarten, and a school was built on the further areas of the plot.
Due to its poor technical condition, the building was not used for several decades. In order to restore its former splendour, comprehensive modernization works were carried out outside and inside the building under the supervision of the conservator of monuments.
Since 2005, the building has been entered in the register of monuments under the number A-416.
