Interactive youth theater as a tool of preserving and promoting the common Polish-Ukrainian cultural heritage
The development of cross-border cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian regions is restrained by cultural barriers. Low level of mutual understanding, cultural differences and negative stereotypes are mentioned most often. Despite many crossborder cultural initiatives undertaken in recent years, the lack of long-term engagement and the inability to build sustainable partnerships are still diagnosed. Although most of the Polish-Ukrainian cross-border cooperation projects has been implemented in the field of culture, only a few of them were connected with theatrical heritage of Poland and Ukraine. This is also leading to low awareness of Poles and Ukrainians about their common cultural heritage. For example, Marian Hemar being a prominent Polish poet, journalist, playwright, comedy writer, and songwriter born in Lviv is still little known to the general public, especially children and young people. The project aims not only to introduce young people to the Hemar’s work but also to make them direct participants in theatrical performances of his works. The project is foreseen to use improved infrastructure and equipment of cultural centres developed (in Lublin) and established (in Uzhhorod) within the project PBU2/0912/18 in which LB and B1 are Beneficiaries too as well as to involve and develop creative youth groups formed in aforementioned project. Main outputs of the project are: biographical book about life, activities and works of Marian Hemar; 2 summer theatre workshops, interactive web-side, multimedia exhibition (containing e-photobook, multimedia game and comics), 2 Marian Hemar’s theatre plays showed, 3 theatre performances conducted in Lublin, Uzhhorod, and Lviv.
