Dark tourism - Improving dark tourism service in South Baltic countries
“The term dark tourism is fairly new and becoming very popular among South Baltic countrys. More and more people are searching to visit something not ordinary, something who would bring diferent emotions. Most of the “”dark tourism”” sites are in nature or in cultural heritage buildings. A lot of dark tourism providers face with these problems: 1. Summer season is overcrowded. Around 80% of tourist comes at summer time. This is becoming a big problem, because most of the dark tourism providers are in the small towns or nature places. Spreading visits to other seasons would help to develope sustainable tourism. 2. Dark tourism needs more visibility. For people who are looking for dark tourism places it is hard to find it. during the seed money project we would suggest a ways to make dark tourism easier to find. 3. Most of dark tourism objects are not accesible to all, especially to people with disabilities. Dark tourism objects are usualy an old buildings or places, which were not repaired or adjusted in years. Nowadays, with new technologies, we would be able to make the places for accessible to all without changing an object. 4. The young people are not familiar with history which dark tourism brings. It would be possible to increase fascination of dark tourism through new technologies All these challanges would be possible to overcome with seed money project. It would be possible to share the experience and good practices between the partners between borders.”
