CO2.Red- Rebuilt - CO2-Reduction by reuse
Production of materials for new buildings contributes to 10 % of the global CO2-emision. We must make use of redundant building materials, when making new constructions, to reduce the CO2-impact. The project “Increasing the share of renewable energy through increased reuse” showed that no municipality alone can solve the challenges. Therefore, we go forward in a broader South Baltic partnership, where all partners are motivated to overcome the challenges. Using virgin materials for construction is no longer viable. If we want to meet our climate goals, we simply must act differently. The Municipality of Holbæk has had an analysis done of the possibilities of reusing materials in a building-project. The analysis tells us that materials reused on sight may reduce the CO2 footprint by 136,8 tons! More can be saved if there are logistic solutions ready to make used materials from the building sight available in building projects situated elsewhere. Furthermore, circular public procurement needs to be explored and developed. The Municipality of Kalmar has been chosen as one of 23 Swedish municipalities to reach climate neutrality by 2030 in a special call from Viable Cities. It is crucial that they find CO2 reductions in reuse within the construction activities. The partner GodaHus is working for reuse of building materials in the three regions in southeast of Sweden, their Municipalities, and their members covering landlords, entrepreneurs, consultants, and providers.
