SB Nudging - Nudging in the South Baltic Region
In the past year nature and tourist destinations in the South Baltic area have experienced a steep increase of visitors. Many visitors are lacking knowledge and experience of how to behave in the nature. This has resulted in problems with waste disposal, such as visitors discarding waste in unwanted locations, spoiling natural areas, as well as problems with car parking in unassigned spaces etc. These issues show that behavioural change is needed in the South Baltic Region in order to get on the right path to sustainable tourism and destination development alongside the growing number of visitors. In this seed money project we want to investigate which conditions are needed to make tourism in nature destinations more attractive and sustainable, aiming to deliver positive environmental outcomes with considerations to the needs of the visitor, industry, community and environment. There is a need for a seed money procject to create a partnership between different stakeholders in the South Baltic region within the field of sustainable tourism destination development and the tool “nudging” to minimize littering and waste. Nudging is a tool for changing people’s behaviors by making it easier to make certain choices. The future project will implement different methods with relevant stakeholders to create a sustainable tourism in the South Baltic Sea area. EU Office Skåne Northeast has earlier implemented a project called “SB PIN” in the South Baltic programme together with some of the project partners in this project. Now we want to continue and deepen the cooperation in a specific field to create a sustainable South Baltic Region in line with the new programme.
