Baltic Sea Cycle Route - Development of Baltic Sea Cycle Route (EuroVelo 10) by supporting Small&Medium-Sized Enterprises providing services in the area of cycle tourism
According to ECF data collected across Europe over the past year has been indicating that more people are cycling then pre-pandemic, a general growth of 2% on the EuroVelo Network, including a 12% increase at weekends suggesting that much of this growth can be connected to tourism and leisure use. Despite the increase of interest in cycle tourism, there are still many topics that should be addressed: – SMEs have a significant difficulty in reaching international markets with their offer, both in the Baltic Sea region and in other parts of Europe (insufficient knowledge, funds, lack of tools, unattractive offer focused around a single area, lack of multi-day offers) – A large share of tourism companies (SMEs) are active only on the local market (based on selected route sections) – Local tourism operators have mainly 1-day trip offers in their catalogues – SMEs from areas outside of large urban centres focus on services for domestic visitors / tourists, rather than international ones – Seasonality, high occupancy in summer months, much fewer visitors in autumn and spring despite the same infrastructure conditions and the same service facilities – Still low level of awareness among key stakeholders (local governments, associations, SMEs) regarding the potential offered by bicycle tourism, brought by exchange of business contacts, or the needs related to quality of services offered – Lack of joint promotion. Seed Money will allow for creation of space for running consultations/meetings with partners, to meet their needs and expectations, and planned activities will increase the opportunities for SMEs from the Baltic Sea region to carry out joint cross-border activities contributing to their development. SM is one of the few instruments allowing for planning of activities on BSCR development on multiple levels; e.g.: specific SME support tools, activities in digitization of services, innovative pilot investment projects, etc. will be discussed.
