perspective
2014 - 2020

There are about 2.000 manors in the rural hinterlands of the SBA. In & around more than 500 of them, SMEs provide a variety of recreational offers (e.g. hotels, restaurants, regional food markets, guided tours etc.). Manors are, therefore, important touristic assets in the remote parts of the SBA, and SMEs from the manor tourism sector important cornerstones of the rural economy – both as employers and as nucleus of regional, often “green” supply chains (many manor hotels offer e.g. bio-food from local producers or tours with local guides to their guests). The project SOUTH BALTIC MANORS (SBM) established the brand “BALTIC MANORS” for joint manor tourism marketing in the SBA. A pilot campaign in 2022 – after international travelling re-emerged – proved that it is an effective “vehicle” to promote SBA manor tourism products on international markets. But it revealed also gaps in the offers of SMEs from the SBA manor tourism sector in this regard: – The vast majority of their products are tailored to domestic tourists. Only hotel accommodation is more widely advertised in foreign languages (via international booking portals). – Manor tourism “packages” that combine accommodation with other offers (e.g. nature tours) are still rare. In particular, it lacks combined offers for multi-day stays at manors that would justify longer journeys there – and could attract international guests. – Presenting & combining existing offers on landing pages in foreign languages (> “Offers & tours” section, www.baltic-manors.eu) is a good start of joint promotion. But this approach is very limited as only few offers can be used for it. Manor tourism SMEs, therefore, will have to develop new products & packages to tap international market potentials effectively. The Seed Money will (a) build up a consortium to support the SMEs in this process, (b) screen & pre-select international target markets, and (c) systematically develop the work plan for a main project in dialogue with SME
