perspective
2014 - 2020

Countries in the South Baltic region are in the process of transitioning to a low-carbon, resource-efficient economy. This requires systemic changes that will result not only in new products and services but also in changes in production processes and business models (UNIDO 2022). This resource-saving and sustainable usage of products, goods and resources will inevitably change the skills required and the tasks involved in many of the existing occupations (UNIDO 2022), and green skills (defined as “the knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society” (Cedefop, 2012)). These green skills will be needed by all sectors and all levels in the future workforce. This is a challenge in the whole region, but there may be areas where we can learn from each other despite having very different educational systems. This project will therefore look at the feasibility of strengthening the cooperation capacity through focusing on green skills in the educational system. Key questions to get answered are: -To what extend and how are green skills and competences already taught in the partner countries in the upper secondary general and vocational education. -How are green skills/knowledge integrated in the upper secondary educational system. Is it curricular or extracurricular in the partner countries. How is the upper secondary general and vocational education regulated and updated. -Are the SMEs ready for the green transition, and what kind of training will be needed to support the green transition in SME’s -How do we ensure that the future workforce have those skills? -How can digital skills and competences enhance the green skills? -How can the importance of green skills be emphasized by (re)designing learning places towards sustainable, inclusive and green learning places? – What are the new values and goals of Generation Z as the future workforce?
