FEA- Foodtech Excellence Alliance
To make future food production and underlaying systems fair, resilient, sustainable, healthy and environmentally friendly, cross-border cooperation will be of utmost importance. Each country in the South Baltic has its own unique competences and resources, but only by leveraging these competences through cooperation will we be able to reach the full potential of or region. We have therefore initiated this seed project to jointly tackle the challenges stated in several EU frameworks, such as the Farm to Fork, where we intend to focus on the following hurdles in the South Baltic: 1.Lack of support given to SMEs to improve, certify and further develop their food production systems. This includes both technical support as well as business guidance and access to cooperation networks. 2.Low general knowledge of how to produce food that has low environmental impact while preserving affordability of food, generating fairer economic returns and fostering competitiveness of the EU supply sector through fair trade. 3.Few structural guidelines being available to ensure food security, public health (taking nutrition into consideration) and making sure that everyone has access to sufficient, safe, nutritious and sustainable food. The project relates to the specific objective by: 1.Improving the transfer of innovation within the Foodtech sector through joint cross-border actions by sharing knowledge but also access to expertise and research/production infrastructure. 2.Establishing cross-border Foodtech networks based on triple helix models with SMEs, universities and municipal stakeholders which are potential target groups of our work. 3.Creating coaching services and training modules in order to increase the innovation capacity potential of the Foodtech sector in the South Baltic region. The seed funding is needed to develop our project concept, acquire new stakeholders and to further jointly analyze and validate activities that should be included in our future project.
