Construction of the EuroVelo11 cycle route in the area of the Proszowice municipality - section Kościelec - Opatkowice
Thanks to EU funding, a 14-kilometre section of the EuroVelo 11 European cycle route has been built in the Proszowice municipality. The 2.5 m wide asphalt path from Opatkowice to Kościelec runs mainly along the former narrow-gauge railway. Such a route guarantees almost complete decoupling of cycling traffic from motorised traffic. This has reduced the risk of collisions and enhanced safety of cyclists.
The project included the construction of several civil engineering structures, including bridges, footbridges and culverts. A riveted steel truss bridge over the Szreniawa River in Proszowice was also adapted for cyclists. The structure used to be a crossing for the narrow-gauge railway.
The entire development area is an attractive destination for weekend and seasonal tourism alike. Cycle tourists will have a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of big cities and enjoy idyllic, rural landscapes with interesting hilly terrain.
