Shared initiatives for increasing security of the cross-border area related to resilience to climate change - natural disasters and fires.
1)The most important challenge for the Partners is to support cross-border rescue and firefighting services in Poland and Ukraine in combating the effects of climate change and preventing threats related to fires and natural disasters. Negative effects of global climate change have intensified in recent years. Periods of drought and water scarcity, combined with extreme temperatures, dramatically increase fire severity. To adapt to, prevent and mitigate climate change, especially forest fires, mutual cooperation between rescue and firefighting services is essential. It is necessary to improve the equipment of rescue and firefighting units and to increase the competence of these services in the field of rescue and first aid. Following problems should be indicated: -Insufficient rescue and firefighting capabilities and skills of fire brigades in the cross-border area related to rescue operations and cooperation, first aid and driving emergency vehicles. -Unsatisfactory level of cooperation and exchange of experience between units from Poland and Ukraine, –Limited hardware resources in the face of the growing threat resulting from climate change caused by natural disasters and human activity. 2) The general objective of the project is to improve the safety and security of the population of Łosice Town and Commune and the Town of Peremyshlany by enhancing cross-border cooperation of emergency services in combating common challenges related to climate change and the increasing number of fires. A common challenge for the Ukrainian and Polish side of the border, and at the same time the main goal of the project’s activities, is to support activities aimed at adapting to climate change and preventing related threats in the cross-border area of Poland and Ukraine.
