Joint promotion and implementation of activities related to climate change resilience - natural disasters and fires
The common challenge of the Ukrainian and Polish sides in the border area, and at the same time the main goal of the project, is to support actions aimed at adapting to climate change and preventing the risks associated with natural disasters and catastrophes in the cross-border area of PL-UA. The implementation of the project addresses the problem of rapidly progressing climate change, including the threats associated with natural disasters. These phenomena require the partners’ rescue capabilities to be adapted to carry out tasks related to these changes. In order to solve these problems, it is necessary to equip the existing transport base and rescue equipment so that rescue operations can be carried out properly. The project partners have identified three main problems: 1. Increasing threats resulting from climate change-induced natural disasters. 2. Insufficient rescue and firefighting potential of rescue units (facilities and competencies) to support actions aimed at adapting to climate change and natural disasters. 3. Lack of sufficient exchange of experience and cooperation between rescue units in the cross-border area to effectively manage crisis situations related to natural disasters and adapt to climate change. The planned tasks within the project will contribute to improving the effectiveness of rescue and firefighting services in the cross-border area of Poland and Ukraine in preventing the risks associated with natural disasters and catastrophes. As a result, the main project products will be equipment for rescue units, which will be purchased by the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Volyn Region in Ukraine and the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Lublin. On the Polish side, the equipment will be used by the subordinate units: •2 operational pickup trucks with IT equipment setup – 2 units: Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Lublin, Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service
