Clean water - development of sustainable water management in the transboundary area.
Water is a limited and vulnerable resource – essential for life and development. For many decades, the key tasks of water management were exclusively concerned with the use and technological utilisation of water. However, progressive climate change is strongly affecting both environmental resources and needs. Adaptation measures that also take into account land-use planning solutions are therefore necessary, and one of the key resources in this process is water. Proper management of its resources is therefore particularly important. The described phenomena have intensified strongly in the last few decades and cause negative effects, which are also a serious problem in the Polish-Ukrainian cross-border area. Particularly noticeable are the increases in temperatures that cause periods of drought which translates into water shortages. Although overall water consumption in most of the cross-border area has decreased in recent years, there are still shortcomings in terms of sewerage network coverage and availability of clean water. The population, especially in Ukraine, is often connected to an inefficient and outdated public water supply network, resulting in both water losses and a deterioration of drinking water quality. On the Polish side, the situation looks better, although there are cases, especially in rural areas, where entire villages are not connected to the sewage system. The current situation is due to infrastructural shortcomings, manifested in an underdeveloped sewage and water supply network and low awareness among residents and public institutions. The diagnosed problems are also related to the project area, where in the Bukowsko commune the village of Dudyńce does not have a sewage system, as a result of which the environment (especially streams) is polluted through leaking septic tanks and sometimes residents pouring sewage directly onto fields or into streams, which are then transferred to the San River. This situation is also due to a lack of awaren
