The project Interreg4water was prepared in partnership between the city of Garwolin, the commune of Mokobody, the city of Brody and the Carpathian Euroregion association, and shall be considered as a joint, complex response to the identified common problems and needs of participants from the cross border area i.e.: • inadequate sanitary sewage system and wastewater treatment which cause negative consequences for the environment and have essential influence on the quality of living of inhabitants in Garwolin, Mokobody and Brody area. • lack of inhabitants’ awareness of proper water management, conservation and treatment. It is particularly important to shape the right attitudes among the youngest residents (children, school and high school students), who in the future will be responsible for shaping local policies and functioning of cities in an increasingly difficult ecological situation caused, among others, by global warming. • moderate capacity of local units and key stakeholders involved into wastewater management. The awareness of the existing challenges and directions of development is a key factor in maintain sustainable water management in the Program area. The main goal of the joint project is increasing of the environmental protection and the quality of life of inhabitants of the cross-border area through development of sewage infrastructure and improving sustainable water management as well as ecological awareness. As a result of project implementation, the sewage system in Garwolin (2,92 km length) and Mokobody (4,728 km length) will be expanded, and the outdated and inefficient sewage treatment plant in Brody will be modernized and developed. In addition, a number of soft activities will be carried out aimed at increasing the ecological awareness of the inhabitants of the participating cities, with particular emphasis on young people.
