Construction of port infrastructure for the container base on Ostrów Grabowski (Grabowski Islet) in Szczecin
The aim of the project was to adapt the port in Szczecin to efficiently handle containers and create infrastructure to support intermodal transport by building access to development areas, both from the water and land, and thus increase the port’s competitiveness.
Within the scope of the project, a total of 320m of quays were built (240m with a technical depth of 10.5m and 80m of transitional quay), 1 Ro-Ro ramp, access road to Ostrów Grabowski with the length of 950m, railway access capacity to the port was improved from 500 to 570 wagons per day, the area of activated areas was increased by 15 ha and the access to 175 ha of investment areas was made easier. The implementation of the project had an impact on:
- increase in sea transport – the construction of a new container terminal on Ostrów Grabowski (Grabowski Islet) enabled the development of container handling at the port,
- shortening the time of land-sea cargo operations – the construction of a dedicated container terminal in the port in Szczecin allowed to offer professional and quick handling of ships and cargo.
- increasing the transhipment capacity of the port in Szczecin.
