Restaurant in Sobótka
Situated only some 30 km from Wrocław, Sobótka (Saturday Town) owes its name to Saturday markets held here in the Middle Ages. Interestingly enough, the same name was once associated with the majestic Mount Ślęża, surrounded by myths and mystery, at the foot of which the town is sited. In the past, considered a seat of gods and a holy place for the local tribes, the mountain was a venue for mystic rites to worship the sun and other powers of nature. The history of the pagan solar cult can be traced in Sobótka, which is home to the Ślęża Museum located in the so-called Abbot’s House. Often nicknamed the “Silesian Olympus”, the mountain is crowned with St. Mary’s Church dating from 1852, as well as with a lodge established here in the early 1900s.
Full of charm, Sobótka boasts an oval market square, a remnant of its long history as the oldest market town in Silesia. Other places of historical interest include St. James’s Church, St. Anne’s Church and the palace and monastery complex once owned by the Augustinians and later transformed into a secular residence. The town is an excellent base for exploring the hiking and biking routes in the Ślęża Landscape Park. Apart from stunning views and nature, the park abounds in charming chapels, stone folk sculptures and medieval penance crosses.
When exhausted from hiking or sightseeing, you can recover in the Plain Field restaurant, offering a real feast for the senses with perfectly prepared and exquisitely served food, delightful desserts, great interiors and serene surroundings. The latter fully justify the name of the restaurant as there is nothing but peace, space and wild nature around. The restaurant specializes in European cuisine, but also serves traditional Polish dishes mainly based on buckwheat cereal and meat. Apart from that, it is also a popular venue for open-air events, concerts, sports contests, parties, ceramic and dance workshops and other cultural and artistic meetings. The hosts orga-
nize day-long guided tours of the area while those who prefer strolling around aimlessly are welcome to explore the spacious garden. Children will be delighted to visit the playground resembling an old wooden village.
Much more than just another atmospheric restaurant, the Szczere Pole has already developed into a vibrant cultural and social centre in Sobótka.
This welcoming place was nominated for the main award in the first contest Poland Even More Beautiful. Seven Miracles of EU Funds in the Venue category.
