Promotion of the Silesia Province in Poland
The Silesia Province is a friendly, modern place, attractive for tourists, safe and beautiful, its capital serving as a venue for many interesting cultural initiatives. The stereotype of the region as a land of mines, smoking steel mills and polluted air is no longer true.
The list of Silesia’s attractions is exceptionally long and diversified, as is that of its accommodation options, which include farmhouses, guesthouses and luxury hotels. Foodwise, thick volumes could be written about the superb Silesian and highland cooking, inns, festivals and local delicacies.
The ranges of the Beskid Śląski and the Beskid Żywiecki offer mountain hiking and biking trails, encounters with regional folk art and cuisine, and, in winter, hundreds of well-groomed skiing runs. Sailors flock to lakes Żywieckie and Międzybrodzkie, scenically set amid the mountains. In the northern limits of the province, the Jurassic Kraków-Częstochowa Upland (Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska) draws rock climbing enthusiasts with its limestone formations. Another magnet in the area is the famous Trail of the Eagles’ Nests, taking in more than a dozen historic castles, many of them surviving as picturesque ruins.
The Silesia Province boasts an array of valuable religious sights as well. The most famous of them is the monastery of Jasna Góra in Częstochowa, known as the spiritual capital of Poland and national treasure trove. Fine wooden churches and other listed constructions can be admired by following the Trail of Wooden Architecture.
Another treasure of the region is the castles and palaces that acted in the past as defensive structures and stately residences. Arguably the finest of them is the palace-cum-park complex in Pszczyna. Nearby, Promnice has a charming hunting lodge that has been converted into a luxury hotel.
The region’s industrial traditions are testified to by fascinating engineering monuments such as the old coal mine and museum Królowa Luiza in Zabrze or the silver and lead mining facilities in Tarnowskie Góry.
A special attraction is the visit to Tychy Brewery and the on-site museum of brewing.
So, you can explore Silesia in many ways. The region consistently promotes its attractions using the slogan “Silesia – Positive Energy.” To this end, a dynamic promotional campaign was launched on television, radio and Internet, accompanied by outdoor advertising, competitions and outdoor events. From March to May 2009 the “Positive Energy – the Positively Energized Recommend Silesia” campaign was run with great success.
