The establishment of an active reaction centre in Łękuk Mały
The village of Łękuk Mały in the district of Giżycko has a new place where visitors can breathe deeply, forget about daily problems and recharge their batteries in delightful surroundings. Łękuk Manor Farm is a dream-come-true holiday destination. You can stay in one of the comfortable rooms in the manor’s atmospheric attic space or camp on a well-appointed camping site if you prefer to be closer to nature. There is also a lake with a bathing beach and a scenic footpath along the bank. The resplendent ruins of one of the former manor houses hide a romantic, roofless tavern. You will never be bored in Łękuk; activities on offer include volleyball, mini-golf, horse riding, angling, barbecue or hiking in nearby Puszcza Borecka (Borek Forest). Kayaking enthusiasts may seek assistance from the owners who will hire out the equipment and give you some pointers about the best routes and places where you can launch your boat and set up camp, as well as sharing their knowledge about the sights near the river. The area offers ample cycle routes with different levels of difficulty. If you haven’t brought your own bike, you can hire one on the spot. One of the favourite tourist attractions is a traditional Russian banya (sauna) erected on a secluded jetty on Lake Łękuk. Inside is a steam room with a stove, a resting room, and a feast room which can accommodate 12 people. The manor offers excellent local cuisine, and if you like, you can order freshly caught fish, straight from the lake.
This hospitable place stands on the site of a former Prussian estate. After the Second World War the manor buildings burned down and the farmland was turned into a State Agricultural Farm. With the collapse of the collective farming system in Poland, the historic buildings in Łękuk gradually fell into ruin, until they were acquired by the Przyłucki family. The new owners managed to prevent the buildings from further degradation, as well as restoring the park and building a recreational path along the lake. They also cleared the land for the camping site and opened the roofless “Pod bocianami” tavern.
The old manor estate grows more flourishing by the day, much to everyone’s delight. But, it was the owners’ passion and commitment in the first place that led to the creation of this remarkable place which caters to all those who enjoy comfort, and at the same time like to spend their free time in an active way, with their families and in beautiful natural surroundings. The owners are also planning to turn another building on the estate into a leisure centre, with a restaurant and other facilities for training purposes. Other plans include the building of a new playground which will add to the already-generous offerings for children.
In the 4th contest Poland Even More Beautiful. Seven Miracles of EU Funds, the Manor Estate in Łękuk Mały win main award in the Rural Areas category.
