Manor Complex in Prusim
Olandia is a hospitable tourist resort in Prusim on Lake Kuchenne. Here, in the beautiful surroun-dings of Noteć Forest, visitors travel a few centuries back in time to the period of Olender settlers. And, more importantly, they do it without the need to renounce any of modern amenities.
Olender (Germ. Hauländer) is a term for Mennonite immigrants from the Netherlands and Friesland who began to settle in Poland in the 16th century after fleeing religious persecution. The Olender culture was based on the ethos of work and strict morality. They were known for their modesty, neighborhood solidarity, thrift and advanced agriculture. Their farms were basically self-sufficient.
Olandia is a tourist resort and open-air museum, founded on the site of an 18th-century manor and park complex, which focuses on the material culture, traditions, and everyday life of the former settlers. The revitalized buildings, which are now used by tourists, allude to the Olender heritage of the region. The former granary has rustic-style rooms for visitors and an inn with historic household appliances, tools and other objects. The interior design of the rooms in the Manor House is meant to hint at some of the daily activities of the early settlers. Accommodation is available in a fisherman’s, weaver’s, bee-keeper’s, farmer’s, blacksmith’s, miller’s or herbalist’s room.
Visitors can learn more about the material and spiritual culture of the Olenders by walking along the educational trail with a miniature park with a one-tenth scale model of an Olender village.
Olandia offers comfortable accommodation in the Granary, Mason’s House and Manor, excellent cooking and exquisite drinks in an atmospheric winery. There are numerous recreational amenities, such as sports grounds, playground, barbecue and water equipment and bicycle hire. Another attraction is a bathing beach on the shore of a beautiful lake where you can also fish.
The former manor house has been transformed into a multi-functional tourist resort. This is an ideal spot for family relaxation, team-building meetings, conferences and artistic activities. Visitors are invited to take part in numerous demonstrations and workshops focusing on old-fashioned crafts, festivals of plum stew prepared according to Olender recipes and numerous other open-air events. The list of popular attractions is complemented with feasts with loaves of bread baked on site in traditional bread ovens and meat from Olandia’s own smokehouse.
Thanks to its high standards, Olandia has been entered into the official UEFA catalogue for recommended accommodation during EURO 2012.
The project of revitalization of the old manor was nominated for the main award in the 4th contest Poland Even More Beautiful. Seven Miracles of EU Funds in the Revitalization category.
