Warta River Boulevard in Gorzów Wielkopolski
The Warta River Boulevard in Gorzów Wielkopolski is the envy of every city on a river. Once a neglected market, the Boulevard has now become the most favoured place for the local population to take a leisurely stroll and perhaps meet each other. It attracts parents with children, concert-goers and all those who love various open-air events. The boulevard has all you need for great relaxation – neat walkways, atmospheric cafes overlooking the river, cosy restaurants, including one on a barge, a small cruise boat moored right next to it, and the historic ice-breaker “Kuna” entering the marina from the side across the bridge.
The process of restoration of the boulevard to its former glory began in 2006 with the construction of an impressive three-level wharf on the western side. This was followed by the revitalization of the Eastern side between the Old Town Bridge and ulica (street) Cichońskiego. The two sides were connected by the so-called lower terrace under the bridge, thus creating a continuous walkway. The boulevard has numerous attractions, including a glass ball-shaped aviary, playground and sundial. There are comfortable ramps allowing the disabled to move along the entire length of the boulevard and a cosy summer house with heated benches for senior citizens.
An evening stroll along the Warta River Boulevard is a must. Admire the illuminated floating fountains – there are three on either side of the Old Town Bridge.
These changes have made the Warta River Embankment a true showcase of Gorzów Wielkopolski, a fact appreciated by the jury of the 5th contest Poland Even More Beautiful. Seven Miracles of EU Funds. In 2012 the project of the revival of the Warta River Boulevard was awarded the first prize in the Revitalization category.
