Development of public space on Mickiewicza Street in Toruń
The reconstruction of Mickiewicza Street, located in Bydgoskie Przedmieście district, was one of the most important investments included in the Local Revitalization Program of the City of Toruń. Thanks to the implementation of this project Mickiewicza Street has become friendly for residents and tourists and safe in terms of traffic. The implemented speed limit has contributed to the reduction of exhaust emissions and improved safety of road users, which has also directly translated into fewer road collisions. The main goal of the project was to slow down the traffic and improve pedestrian safety. This was possible thanks to traffic segregation consisting in separating independent traffic routes separately for car, pedestrian and cyclist traffic. Thanks to this, the street gained a function of an inner housing estate street and mainly provides access to the property. Parking spaces have been provided in the project as well as greenery and elements of small architecture. The stylized forms of benches, bicycle racks and garbage cans emphasized the architectural style of Mickiewicza Street and improved the aesthetics of the whole Bydgoskie Przedmieście district.
