Construction of the Northern Through Road in the main road skeleton system of the city in the east-west direction on the section from the bridge route in the axis of Wschodnia Street to Chełmińska Street stage I - Section from Grudziądzka Street to Chełmińska Street
The beginning of the construction of the whole Northern Through Road was a priority for the city in the context of solving the traffic difficulties in Toruń. The Northern Through Road is one of the main elements of the city’s skeletal road system. In the future, after the construction of all the sections, it will serve as a thoroughfare in the east-west direction. Thanks to the implementation of the first stage, drivers have the opportunity to quickly and safely drive from Chełmińskie Przedmieście district to Mokre district. The drivers now have at their disposal two 1.42 km long roadways, two lanes each with extensions for additional lanes within the intersections (quiet surface). In order to ensure safety and orderly traffic at intersections with circular traffic, traffic lights were used – in places where the traffic from the national road, running along Grudziądzka Street, and at the intersection with the busy regional road No. 553 (Szosa Chełmińska street) intersect. According to the project, the fragments of streets intersecting the Northern Through Road with a total length of 740 meters (Chełmińska Street, Legionów Street and Grudziądzka Street) were rebuilt.
