Adaptation of the basements of the Field Cathedral of the Polish Army for the Museum of the Military Ordinariate - branch of the Historical Museum of the Capital City of Warsaw
The main goal of the project was the development of the cultural sector in Warsaw by adaptation of the basements of the Field Cathedral of the Polish Army for the purposes of the Museum of the Military Ordinariate, as a branch of the Historical Museum of the Capital City of Warsaw, with headquarters at Długa Street in Warsaw.
The implementation of the project covered the renovation and adaptation of the cathedral’s basements and the interior, which allows the organization of exhibitions, museum lessons and multimedia presentations. The newly created cultural institution has enriched the cultural offer of Warsaw and the entire region. Due to its unique nature, it is an additional program point for organized trips and individual tourists from the country and abroad.
The creation of the Museum of Military Ordinariate allowed the presentation of the tradition of military pastoral ministry in the context of the history of Polish statehood. On over 340 square metres, the Museum visitors can learn about the history of military chaplains, see exhibits related to the figures of individual field bishops and military missions, regarding the work and role of military chaplains in the lives of soldiers and civilians. Appropriate adaptation works were carried out at the facility, thanks to which disabled people have full access to the building. The ceremonial opening of the Museum took place on December 8, 2010.
