The „Development of an intelligent road transportation system in the city of Rzeszów” project is next stage of improving the public transportation system and traffic management in the city of Rzeszów. It is a continuation of the activity named “Construction of a system integrating public transport of the city of Rzeszów and the surrounding area”, implemented with co-financing from ERDF funds from Operational Program development of Eastern Poland 2007-2013. As part of the project, the Dynamic Passenger Information System was expanded – 89 sets of passenger information boards and 9 e-kiosks dedicated for e-tickets selling were purchased and installed (at selected public bus stops in Rzeszów). The system of Dynamic Weighing of Vehicles WIM (Weight in Motion) was also implemented. It is composed of 5 stations for preselection vehicle weighing, which were purchased and installed (in 5 locations on the main entry roads to the city of Rzeszów). Thanks to the implementation of the project, the attractiveness of the public transport service has increased. It includes improvement of the quality, availability and popularization of passenger information. The implementation of the project contributed to the change of people’s habbits from the use of passenger vehicles for the benefit of public transport. Thanks to the launch of the Dynamic Vehicle Weighing System, the effectiveness of supervision over heavy trucks and the share of vehicles overloaded in street traffic increased, which resulted in improved traffic conditions and safety. By reducing traffic (individual transport and overloaded trucks) air pollution and noise pollution were decreased, which gave an effect of general environmental conditions improvement of residents.
