Reconstruction of Intermodal Rail Terminal in the Port of Gdynia
Extension of the railway system and handling of longer trains will improve the efficiency of the terminal and reduce the manoeuvring of trains with diesel locomotives. In addition, due to the intermodal nature of the terminal, it is planned to reduce the traffic of heavy duty vehicles (trailers and containers will be transported by rail).
The project will also contribute to the reduction of noise generated by motor vehicles and freight wagons over existing railway systems. Fitting the terminal area with tight concrete pavements with rainwater sewage system equipped with treatment devices will prevent contamination of soil, groundwater and surface water, contributing to improvement of the environment.
The project will be ready for operation immediately after completion of the investment.
The implementation of the project will help to increase the share of ecological maritime transport in general cargo carriage. The purpose of the project is to improve the competitiveness of the Port of Gdynia in the Baltic Sea Region and in the VI Pan-European corridor of TEN-T.
Completion of the planned project will organise the railway system and increase the transhipment capacity in terms of the volume of container vessels handled.
