Construction of a biogas plant in Michałowo"Budowa biogazowni rolniczej w Michałowie"
Biogas plant in Michałowo is one of the first investments of this kind in Podlaskie Voivodeship. The plant was build thanks to a subsidy provided by Regional Operational Programme. It uses a technology which is not only efficient, but also fulfills very strict environmental protection requirements. Biogas plants produce methane in the process of organic substances fermentation. The process, originally occurring in nature, requires special equipment and conditions. The controlled fermentation process takes place in the containers called fermenters. The plant also consists of special heating system, set of stirrers and elastic container for biogas. The plant is fully automated, the operators are required only to supply the devices in daily biomass portion. Biogas plant in Michałowo produces methane mainly from maize silage. Produced biogas is then combusted in special engine, which convert mechanical energy to electricity. The thermal energy, which is a side product of the process, is used to heat the plant itself. The surplus energy is bought by the school and swimming pool located nearby. This way, local community can also benefit from thermal energy produced in Michałowo.
