The project includes dredging works (deepening) within the Port Channel, i.e. from the main entrance to the port (head of the breakwater), through the turning-basins No. 1, 2 and 3 to the Helskie I Quay and to the Basin III area.

The detailed scope of the project includes:

  1. The preservation of the structure of quays: French, Belgian, Dutch, Norwegian, Slovak (formerly Yugoslavian), Helskie I – by reinforcing the bottom of the quays with the geotextile mattress filled with sand; the preserved quays will be 2474 m long.
  2. Dredging of the Port Channel to -13.5 m throughout its length of 5300 m from the entrance to the port to the Helskie I and Bulgarian quays (towards the west) and to Basin III (towards the east), the current channel depth ranges from 11.5m to 12.0 m, and after the completion of the project it will be equal to 13.5 m (difference of 1.5 – 2.0 m).
  3. Rebuilding the structure of the Ostroga Pilotowa ( Pilot Groyne) to the extent necessary to expand the inner entrance to the port at the bottom level, at a depth of -13.5 m. The width of the inner entrance to the port at the bottom level is now 84 m, and after the completion of the project it will be equal to 98 meters (14 m difference).
  4. Deepening of the bottom at the following quays:
    • Dutch: the section of ca.100 m from 9.8 m to 11.1 m (by 1.3 meter), and the section of ca. 400 m from 12.2 m to 13.5 m (by 1.3 meter),
    • Helskie I: the section of 282 m from 11.0 m to 12.5 m (by 1.5 meter), section of 400 m from 12.0 m to 13.2 m (by 1.2 meter)
    • Norwegian: section ca. 105 m from 8.8 m to 9.0 m (by 0.2 meter) and section ca.150 m from 7.5 m to 9.0 m (by 1.5 meter),
    • French: section of 196 m from 11.8 m to 12.0 m (by 0.2 meter), section ca. 204 m from 11.6 m to 13.5 m (by 1.9 meter), section of 112 m from 12.5 m to 13.5 m (by 1.0 meter);
    • Slovak (formerly Yugoslavian): 190 m from 8.4m to 8.7 m (by 0,3 meter)
  5. Deepening the Turing -basins No. 1, 2 and 3; Turning-basin No. 1 from 11.5 m to 13.5 m (by 2 m), No. 2 from 11.5 m to 13.5 m (by 2 m), No. 3 from 11.5 m to 13.5 m (by 2 m).
  6. Increasing the diameter of turning-basins No. 2 and 3; No. 2 from diameter of 300 m to 385 m (by 85 m) and No. 3 from diameter of 270 m to 400 m (by 130 m).

The main objective of the project is to increase the size of allowable draught for vessels and improvement of navigational conditions in the Port of Gdynia
