Inventory and valorisation of selected degraded and polluted areas in Warsaw - natural and social potential of wasteland
Project regarding areas of over 200 ha, located in Warsaw, constituting degraded and polluted areas, which are potential urban green areas. The main goal of the project is inventory and valorisation of selected wastelands for the needs of their use in the urban green areas system. The project will also analyze the perception of wasteland in a social environment. Activities such as examining: the degree of wasteland cleansing, dust pollution, the degree of phytoremediation of metal pollution. heavy (Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Ce, Ni), oxygen production level relative to reference areas, as well as the potential of the ecologist. wasteland and analysis of the environment will identify the factors determining the quality of rest. Such recognition will allow to create a model defining the possibilities of recreational and natural use. The research results will also allow for the development of strategies for recultivating all wasteland in Warsaw. Preliminary work will consist of mapping areas and preparing input materials and tools for appropriate research. Thorough soil tests will be carried out at certified research stations. On this basis, areas will be inventoried primarily in terms of their degree of degradation, but also in terms of natural and social potential. Completed studies will allow for later, more accurate estimation of costs of reclamation of wasteland and their transformation into green areas. The studies being the subject of the study will be carried out on over 500 plots with a total area of over 200 ha, located in all 18 Warsaw’s districts.
