Modernization of the Odra River locks on the Gliwice Canal on the section managed by RZGW Gliwice - adaptation to class III waterway - Stage II
The locks of the Gliwice Canal were built in the 1930s. After nearly 80 years of operation of this waterway, the modernization of the locks has become a necessity. The project “Modernization of the Odra River locks on the Gliwice Canal, on the section managed by RZGW Gliwice – adaptation to class III of the waterway – stage II” involves comprehensive modernization works on two of the six locks of the Gliwice Canal: Sławięcice and Nowa Wieś. The other four locks: Kłodnica, Rudziniec, Dzierżno and Łabędy were subjected to a similar project in 2013-2015.
The second stage of the project on the Gliwice Canal includes:
- reconstruction of concrete on the upper and lower heads
- replacement of gates and gate valves
- renovation of the bottom and walls of chambers and inter-lock
- modernization of the lock control room and existing technical buildings
- construction of new social buildings
Thanks to the project in question, the waterway administrator – the State Water Holding Polish Waters in Gliwice, will gain certainty as to the safety of the solutions used, the conditions for water transport on the Gliwice Canal will improve and the failure frequency of hydrotechnical facilities located on the waterway will decrease. The investment and tourist attractiveness of the region will also increase.
